Aaron goes to the dentist

Today was Aaron's first visit to the dentist. Zachary went to the dentist too, but he's an old pro at this by now. Zack went first to 'show' Aaron how its done. I was really impressed with Zack. He sat in the dentist chair and as soon as the hygentist reclined the chair he propped his mouth open nice and big!! The last time Zack went to the dentist (his first time) he had 4 cavities!!!! He was sent to a pediatric specialist for the fillings. I learned today that the specialist only filled 3 of the 4 cavities. The dentist was asking me why they only filled 3 of them. I had no idea. I thought they were all done. So Zack has no NEW cavities, but the last one still needs to be filled.
The fact that Zack had 4 cavities led me to schedule Aaron an appointment with the dentist. The pediatrician said kids don't need to go until age 3, but given Zack's record, I wanted to get Aaron in earlier.

When it came to Aaron's turn, he climbed right up on the chair. The hygentist played around with him a little, let him touch and play with the tool and he seemed ok. He looked like someone who's been going to the dentist for a long time...a little tense, stoic and unsure of what the dr. would say!

Aaron opened his mouth when the hygentist (named Eren) asked, but he kept closing and biting down on the instruments as soon as she put them in his mouth. She was able to clean the front teeth, then Aaron had enough and climbed out of the chair. She said for a 1 yr old he did great!!
Aaron wasnt as cooperative for the dentist, he giggled and grinned at him, but wouldn't open up.

So we left with new Diego toothbrushes, spongebob toothpaste and stickers. The boys were as happy as could be then! We'll see how it goes in 6 months!!
(I keep forgetting to take my camera!!!)

The maiden voyage

On Sunday, we finally went and got the bicycle that we told Zack he was getting for his birthday. Dave put it together and away they went! Zack road around on the basketball court near our house for a little bit. Then Dave took him over to Tudek Park, where they have alot of walking trails.

...now that's where he always wants to go to ride his bike! (thanks dave!)

Tubbie Time

Aaron has always loved bathtime. He goes running to the bathroom when I suggest to take a bath or just turn on the water. However, he doesn't really play in the tub if Zack is there too. But Aaron has discovered splashing! I've been trying to get him just to splash with his hands since he was born...he wasn't having it. UNTIL, he accidently splashed mommy (the splash startled me) and made me shreak! That made Aaron laugh, so he did it again, and again, and again! Each time I have to pretend scream now. Zack joins in on the splashing and even the ceiling gets a good soaking!
Then yesterday, Aaron discovered that it funny to smack Zack with a wet wash cloth. Luckily Zack thought this was funny too.

Let's go fly a kite!

Wednesday was surprisingly nice outside. We were in the backyard playing and Zack found his Kite in the shed. It was actually a perfect (windy) day for kite flying. We walked across the street to the golf course, away from powerlines and trees. It took Zack a little while to get the hang of kite flying. He'd run and get the kite up in the air, then stop and down came the kite.

I showed him how to get it back up in the air by himself and he took off running down the fairway with kite in tow! He was doing great until he the fairway curved and now he was running straight for a tree. I was about 75 yards back with Aaron, who was only interested in collecting items from the golf course...pine cones, leaves, fairway markers!!

I yelled to Zack to come back, but it was too late, he tangled the kite in the tree! I tugged on the string but it was stuck. I surveyed the tree and decided that I might be able to climb the tree and reach the kite. I was able to climb the tree and I was about 3 feet from the kite and the winds picked up. I had to move closer to the trunk of the tree to keep from falling. I had momentary flashes of me falling from the tree and getting hurt and stranded there with a toddler and preschooler crying (because the kite is stuck!) So I decided I couldnt reach the kite and climbed down. I found a really big stick and was able to pull the limb down. I got the body of the kite down, but the tail was too tangled in the branches. Zack went on and on about the tail being stuck.

Crap!

Zack and I were playing yesterday. He closed a lid on a toy. When I went to go open it, Zack says, "No, don't touch. It's crap!" I looked at him in disbelief and told him "That's not a nice thing to say and we dont say that word."
In true 3 year old form, he replies, "But it's crap!"
I'm doing my best not to laugh because after the third time saying it he gets a silly expression on his face. He just starts smiling bigger and giggling while saying "Crap! Crap! Crap!" I finally just left it alone and we moved on to a new game!
Later that same night, Dave and Zack were playing on the couch. I think they were having a little pillow fight. Dave bumps Zack with the pillow and he stops and says: "Hey!! What's the big idea!!!!" I can't remember if it was Dave that figured it out or Zack clued Dave in but this is something Donald Duck says in nearly every episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! hmmmmm.
At least once a day, I find myself stopping in surprise at what came out of Zack's mouth and saying "What did you just say?!!!"
Kids say the darnest thing!
